I got a yasha goby(1") a week ago and it is very shy. I've only seen it eating once. I haven't noticed anyone picking/bullying it. Other inhabitants are McCulli wrasse (1.5"), pair of Occelaris clowns(1" each). Currently it is chilling in my coast-to-coast. I'm trying to move it to my fug, so at least it can munch on pods.

I'm soaking the food in garlic to get a feeding response, so far it doesn't look good. Any suggestions?

My new tank is going up next week, 60g cube.

So much for staying with a smallish tank eh?

when feeding leave away from the tank so its its not scared and can eat, that what i do to my yellow goby
I think this is the best method. Its kinda like sneaking up on a bristle worm....lightly sneak up on the tank when feeding and then walk away and observe from a distance. From what I read the goby should in most cases get used to your presence....but ya never know!

What size tank is he in now? Do you have a cover? Just curious. I'm in the market for a goby but I know their jumpers. I have an ideal tank for them just dont know what I want yet and I need to build a screen of some sort. Good Luck -- He'll come around!

I agree with both of the last two posts. My yellow headed sleeper goby was starving, because I was near the tank. As soon as I started feeding, then moving away (peeking from the next room over) he'd come out and eat. I've had him just over a month and he is just now, finally, coming out to eat when I'm nearby. Although still somewhat skinny, he's fattening up finally.

I'll try that tonight. What food do to guys feed that is small? I have a variety of dry foods, no pellets, and small mysis(frozen).

Maybe the fish is racist Jamie.
Maybe if I wear my hood he'll come out? Anyone have a spare hood....

I'm currently trying Elite reef's frozen "reef" food sheet. They said they made it themselves. It has all kinds of stuff in it, from large (1/8") shrimp tails down to coral sized mysis, brine shrimp, blood worms, plankton... I also grow bubble Caulerpa in a separate biocube tank for my Foxface. As well as a few Norri sheet pieces here and there. (yes my yellow head DOES hit the Norri sheet).

Does he have a place that he tends to hide? I had trouble with my diamond goby for about a week...he would also hide and be too afraid to come out and eat. He survived on pods.

I started target feeding by putting frozen food mixed with tank water in a syringe, and connected some airline tubing to the end. I placed the food just barely under the sand outside his burrow and walked away from the tank; he started eating right away. After a few days I would put half his food outside his burrow on the back wall and half in the center of the tank so he'd start venturing out more.

It worked, and a few days ago I started only placing his food just beside a rock front and center in the tank...yesterday he took up residence under that rock and now hangs out up front most of the day. He also nips at the tube as soon as I put it in the tank.

edit: didn't mean to dig up this old thread, this somehow showed up at the top of my unread list. Ah well ...hope your goby is doing better, and maybe someone could use the feeding tip someday.
