Skimmer bubble issue

#1
Hi I have a instant ocean 100 skimmer... And before I say anything more... I will say this skimmer is only temporary! It's just what I could afford at the time of purchase... But I have read the instructions and set it up in a section of my sump and I was under the impression that the bubbles are supposed to reach the container on the top... Can anyone give me any tips on how to make that happen? It has a airline tube to adjust but I can't seem to get it to bubble up over where the water comes out

In that specific skimmer the bubbles should appear cyclonish in the water, you have to make slow adjustments to the black valve on the end of the hose. It took me 4 days to get the one i had dialed in

I always used to screw the valve in all the way and then back it out 3/4 of a turn. That always seemed to be a good starting point for me. BTW dot knock it, I still have mine and put it to use on any small tank I may setup... It a great buy for the money!!

Thank you both for the input... will this skimmer bubble to the top of the container? And I'm not bashing it I just have a 110 gal tank with that skimmer so I know I need to get a bigger one soon! But I will try closing it all the way and working from there :)

By mods, what do you mean? And if I were to upgrade to a new skimmer what should I upgrade to? Is this a peace of equipment I can skimp on or would this be something I make sure I dump some good money in to? Either way, could you saltwater pros give me some brands and models I should look at.

Mods are modifications or upgrades that have been done to the skimmer, some people add gate valves to the output to control the level in the skimmer or mods to the pump that make them more efficient. I would look for a used skimmer that will fit in the area you have the other skimmer now. Or if you by new what is your budget for a new one so maybe we could throw some brands out that fit in your budget. And yes IMO I think you should invest in a quality skimmer.

Well my budget is kind of anywhere lol I'm willing to save up if it's something I need but I would prefer something that's quality... So I guess maybe the 1-300 dollar range

i am thinking of pitching the skimming all together and just running a ATS (algae turf scrubber) i ran a skimmerless reef and it had beter color and growth then it did once i put a skimmer on it the only problem was hair algae...

Ok you have me interested! Lol what is this ats you speak of? Is it cheaper than a skimmer?
yes they can be very cheap, I have started to build one to run with my skimmer but not alone, seeing week after week the crap my skimmer pulls out i will never be convinced that a quality skimmer is not beneficial to a reef.
