Well I have been running this 12 gallon nano for about 3 or 4 years now doing my water changes, keeping my parameters in check,Ph KH and salinty, my temp somtimes goes between 75.5 to 78 in the winter time,my only problem besides some nuisance algae, seams to be my snails they just dont last. I have some that have been in the tank for along time but I do go threw some tturbo's and cerith snails last night i saw my hermit crab and nauserous snails chowing down on a cerith and this morning my turbo is upside down I pushed him agnist the side but i bet when i come tonight he will be bait too..do other people have the same problem or do I have a critter in the tank thats snail tipping...

I seem to lose snails here and there but I tend to just blame hermits. I have seen my a white leg hermit and some blue legs flip over snails and immediately start eating them... They'll actually cruise the tank and search them out. Flipping any shells they find to see of anything is in it... Haven't had any noticeable issues with the Scarlett legs I have though

Trochus snails are by far better than astreas or turbos... they actually right themselves and avoid being an appetizer. Just like any cuc, you need to plan on refreshing them once in a while since they tend to die, get eaten, or crawl out of tank. IMO, the best snails for a reef are nassarius(sand), cerith(rocks/glass/sand), and trochus(glass/rocks).

I use dwarf ceriths for the majority of my snails, they are small so nothing really eats them, and they dont frag my SPS like turbos do and there small size allows them to get places others cannot.

+1, Asterea snails are suicidal in my tank. They crawl to the top and let go, falling on their shells, unable to right themselves they die
