Thanks Kris for all the great info. This defiantly looks like a nice hands off set up once you get the maintenance dose figured out. I'm probably going to stick with the gfo for now, being that I have all of the stuff bought and here. I will be following along with your progress with the carbon dosing though. What is the reason that you went away from the gfo?
In the beginning it was starving out my macro algae's and the algae's alone were able to keep up with nutrient control. Now that I have so many fish I needed a way to control nutrients beyond the macros alone, they just cant keep up anymore so I started carbon dosing. I chose carbon over GFO again because A: its cheaper and B: GFO only removes phosphate, which would allow nitrates to creep up over time. Also, I still have a ton of macro algae's and GFO will strip the column of phosphates which my macros need. With vodka/vinegar I can at least adjust my dosing so there are nutrients in the system for my macros to thrive.

So i have been doing a little reading on this vinigear dosing. I had a question is dosing going to kill of my cyano?? or does it mainly work to starve out alages?? cyano is a bacteria correct??
Correct, Cyano is a bacteria. Vinegar will not "kill" cyano, the theory is that it the bacteria that consumes vinegar will outcompete the cyano bacteria. This is actually holding true for me, I no longer have cyano (I did before carbon dosing) however I did have to do a couple 3 days lights out to kill off the cyano, I believe the vinegar dosing is helping keep it at bay and out of the system.
