Stunner too bright for moonlight?

#1
I'm needing some lunar lights for my 120 gallon, and I'm considering the 48" Ecoxotic blue stunner, but could that be overkill for a nice deep blue moonlight at night? I don't want it lit too much, just a calming blue glow that makes my corals pop but fish can sleep. This is an open top tank with a large 7 bulb Constellation T5 fixture on top, so there is not really much room for anything except a tube or strips. Strips could be a pain for me to DIY and end up costing the same as a tube with how many I might need to get coverage down the length of the tank.

I'm sort of also leaning toward a reefbrite since I could screw it right into my T5 fixture and it has brackets for angling the lights, but again, scared it's going to be too bright for late night.

Also, if anyone is selling anything used that might work, let me know. I used to have R2 Extreme moonlights on my old 90g that worked ok but not so much coverage.

Option 1: the Ecoxotic stunners burn out real easily. you will be down to 1/2 the leds within 3 months and that should be perfect for Moon Lights.

Option 2: Buy someone's used 1/2 burned out ecoxotic Strips and that should be perfect. (I will have some when my 10w LED heat sinks come in)

Option 3: Go the Chinese chip LED's and DIY.

I have had a ecoxotic 48" stunner strip on my tank (75g 48" wide) now for a little over 2 years with no issues of burned out leds. However I will say it is way to bright for a moonlight if you run it out of the box at full power of the transformer. You can add a dimmer to it though and make it whatever brightness you want it to be for a night light. Heck you could adjust it when ever you wanted for that matter.

Let me know if you want to see what it looks like on a 48" tank

I do have 2 of them with a dimmer for sale, used it only for one month. PM me if you are interested and you can take a look at it.
