Stupid fish

So I'm sitting on my couch looking at my tank. There is a new bloom of brown algae. It's so ugly I hope it goes away soon. It's on my rocks and sand. Even some on some coral plugs. I had the lights on longer the past couple of days then I usually do. Seeing this bloom it won't happen again.

As I look in disgust because this basically happened over night I notice my clown is all alone. She usually has Randolf(male clown) with her, they're never apart. I start looking all over the tank for the fish and he's nowhere to be found! I panic and assume he jumped. I check the floor all around the tank and I don't see him. I check under the ottomans because they can flop pretty far I hear Nope not there. I crawled into my aquarium stand to check behind it and sure enough there is Randolf. He's laying there still as can be. He's really dry and his white markings are pink. When i picked him up he felt like a dry piece of lunch meat left on a counter for too long. I am certain he's dead. Before giving up I put him in a small cup I use for thawing frozen fish foods. I put some tank water in and watch him float. I poke at him and pray he's ok. He starts to sink and I see his eye turn at me. His mouth moved slightly... it moves again as he spirals backwards slowly in the small cup. He's breathing! I go wash my hands and come back and he's swimming at the bottom of the cup. That freaked me out! He's my little buddy >.>

Anyway I assume he's bruised since the white markings are still a bit pink. Will that last long? Is there anything special I should do for the jumper?

I would call that a lucky fish! One of my firefish chose to jump just tonight, landed on top of my wavebox. I heard a splash so I figured it was a jumper. Looked all around the tank, nothing. He too is lucky I just happened to glance atop the wavebox right before I walked away.

yeah he does! That was a terrible experience. I never knew how much I liked him till I thought he was dead.

I lost a jumper about a month ago. Didn't try to dip her but she was very dry.

Yeah, I always put jumpers in the sump now for an hour. Best case, they come back. Worst case, they get slimy and you have to toss them. But as to your question "Is there anything special I should do for the jumper?" the answer is cover your tank. I avoided it forever because the covers always diminish the amount of light getting to the tank, but after almost losing a goby (revived) and then losing a clown (didnt), I've started covering everything at least with eggcrate. There are always gaps, and a really persistent fish might manage, but it's a lot better than nothing.

PS. as far as the goby went, I only noticed that he had jumped when my cat was over there obviously very interested in something. Lucky him the cat has better smell than I do.

ah yeah lol I covered all the openngs with acrylic pieces I had left over. Glad you didn't lose both fish. Losing a clown would have been horrible for me. "Why couldn't it have been the sand spitting goby!" j/k lol
