Tank crashed

Well looks like I will be getting out soon as my tank crashed after its move yesterday. So far I have lost all my fish and 60% of my coral. Sure I will wake up to the rest dead. If that happens I'm going to sell the tank, stand and skimmer. I will keep my lights and pumps for now, just in case.

Wha???? Oh no man!!!! I'm sure you have plenty of places to hold things that survive, but if I can help you know where I'm at. Wishing for the best for you!

So tank is toast, 100% loss, pretty sure I got Paly-toxin poisoning. Almost had room mate drive me to emergency room last night and for some dumb reason I drove to work.

For those that will ask I have super bad respiratory issues (asthma like, bronchitis chest pain and severe allergies), metallic taste, rapid heart rate and severe pain all over body.

Sitting here at shop trying to stay occupied, to forego panic attack symptoms. Yup I do not feel so good.

Rock that has been live in an established system for a long time has all kinds of microfauna living inside besides bacteria. Temp excursions and exposing the rock to air can start to kill them off fairly quickly.

If enough die off happens in transit, you can get ammonia to start to build up....and end up with a cascading effect of die off in the rock. Can't say that's what happened for sure...but even a small amount of die off can cause issues if the bacterial filtration can't keep up.

As for how to avoid it? Other than planning ahead, getting things done quickly, and crossing your fingers...I'm not sure. I think some die off is inevitable in a move...it's just whether the system can recover. I've wondered if there is any benefit of transporting rock and livestock in buckets with a battery powered air pump to keep it oxygenated...but would still expect die off even then.

hmm, interesting. When i move the 10g, i think ill just get a few guys to take the whole shelf and not even drain the tank. I dont think my tiny system could handle a mass dieoff
