Apex has a 12v plug for a battery backup. Its only good if your router and modem are on too

Not entirely true. Without the modem and router on a battery backup it could not get a message out, but it could still figure out there had been a power failure. The Apex could then trigger a power saving profile to run only the emergency pumps in an oscillation pattern that achieved good oxygen exchange but did not run the pumps constantly. Thereby greatly extending the time the battery could keep the tank up and running.

Heh have a reefkeeper and since it was just the one circuit and one portion of the system it didn't catch it and was happy the whole time plus up hunting = no internet access. I have 3 separate circuits for the tank as well and had the return pump and tank circ pumps on separate circuits till a few weeks ago but somewhere things got mixed up when I was doing a water change. Found the culprit to the problem today and the big kicker it was an outlet on the other side of the room that had never been used till recently when my wife moved her laptop plug in so in a way she inadvertently killed the tank, trying to tell her its not her fault though. By the way my dad is an electrician and I do a lot of electrical work in my line of work as well basically at this point it amounts to a huge freak accident that I doubt I could replicate if I tried.

Also second note I have a 100 frag tank sitting empty and cycled so at least when I see a fish I want I can grab it.

Good to hear you found the culprit.

As far as the Apex, here is goes:

There are basically 5 things you need to look at: (1) an UPS that powers the internet, for me that is my Internet Comcast router, and a Linksys. (2) you need to run a 12v to the Apex head unit. (I also have my UPS sized to run my Tunze's, and also have other emergency things going on like air pumps but I'll focus on the Apex). (3) You need to enable your apex to know that it has the 12v (4) program the items to look for on power outages, engerybar power strips, outlets, etc. (5) set up email or text notification, if outage than.... Test it, and also test your emergency items at least 2-3x a year. No use having a float switch to detect something if it's gunked up with salt....

Yep I am glad I found it and also lucky it didn't burn down the whole house.

Well today is a little over 3 weeks out. I was able to reaquascape Friday and started adding back in sand bed critters yesterday. So far a hermit has also made it a day and some disposable zoas are opening up. Need to get a more substantial clean up crew added this week and then will be changing carbon and monitoring phosphate the next few weeks.

5 week update, added 100 astrea snails, hermits, a fighting conch, and a cucumber on Friday. Starting to get some green algae growth again which for me is a good thing at this point.

Another week down and have some zoanthids that have been opening and a birdsnest frag that has made it a day. Going to use some lanthanum chloride to get all the excess phosphate out this weekend and then see how things are going.
