does that fixture have to be mounted with space between the top and a canopy? how wide is the actual fixture? Need to know if it will fit in my hood. 48" fixture in a 48" hood over a 36" 40G Breeder.... Not sure how well that will work.

EDIT: nevermind.. it won't fit in my canopy.

Does this light need to be mounted? I do not have a canopy on my tank and wondered if it had legs that it would stand on.

There are many ways to mount or hang a light, looks like it has a hanging kit on it.

I would start it about 16" above the water, and slowly move it down, an inch or two every couple weeks to allow acclimation to the new light, this is a powerful light. I have a similar fixture and its about 6"-8" above the water.

No, like I said its a sweet fixture for that size tank, especially if you plan on keeping anything more difficult than GSP.

why not just hang it? the hanging kit is adjustable, so the light can be raised or lowered very easily, this way if you need to get something in or out you dont need to remove the canopy.

They are good looking lights. Wouldn't look funny. I am a picky guy about the Look of my setup and hang mine.
