Wanted to get a consensus on UV sterilizers. How many use it on their tanks? Did you find it effective in controlling algae, pathogens? Has using it increased water quality and clarity?

I used a turbo twist 9x on my 120 gal system. I didn't notice anything different. The bulb went out once a month and cost me over $50 to replace each time, so after 3 months I took it off. Didnt notice anything negative when I took it off either.

I never used one, but have a unit in the garage that a friend gave me. Think it needs new bulbs or somthing. I did notice a lot of tank of the month write ups say they use it. But the research always ended up not supporting the "less algae" effect.

I run a 90w on my 280. I can tell you it doesn't help with ich outbreaks. I do think it helps with keeping that saltwater aquarium smell down if you have ever experienced that. I honestly don't know if it helps with anything else and usually just run it every other week.
