Ok I got about a 16 gallon wet dry system that I want to turn into a refugium my question is it's made out of acrylic and the way I'm thinking about setting it up I would have to run the light on the outside of the tank shining through the acrylic will that work or do I Leeds to do it another way?

And can I run it with just 2 chambers cause where the water would come in I would just sun a simple cotton filter cause it just comes in and then drops into the first chamber were I would have live sand rock and plants the run over to the next chamber where the pump would be to retern it to the tank.

Be careful that you dont blow your sand around in the fuge and have it go into your return pump. I would also worry about bubbles making it to your return pump as well. Not sure about the light IMO it would be ok.

If there is no way to mount a light on top I don't see why running the light through it would make a big difference, unless is a cheaper light of course.
