Well you produce ammonia naturally. All you have to do is use a pee cup
I saw that one coming as soon as I read the title of this thread.

Science Company on 1st and Lincoln will have it, but as said by other people, you don't need to use pure ammonia. The 5% stuff at the store would be close enough. Biowaste is better, since it builds up the bacteria needed to do the large molecule digestion as well as the nitrobacters. If the pee cup doesn't work for you, let a piece of fish or shrimp rot away in there.

Quick update, I dosed for the first 2 days with ammonia to get to 4 ppm. After 2 days, Nitrites started to climb, on the 3rd day, my Nirates are starting to increase as well..

Looking good so far :)

After a week of ammonia at 4-8ppm
Nitrites went to 5.0 ppm
2 days later Nitrates were at 160
After 3 days of high Nitrites and Nitrates, both have come back down slowly.

Fast forward to today - day 15
Ammonia is just a trace - between 0 and .25ppm
Nitrite is at .25ppm
Nirtrate is at 5ppm
I have a mini-diatom bloom underway, CUC is taking care of it nicely.

I'll do a another water change in the am, and likely be set :)

Not bad, 16 days end to end. 100 gallons total water volume.

I've had zoas in the frag tank for 3 days, and all look great. Chaeto and mangroves also been in the tank about 5 days.

Did you just add the ammonia or did you add some bacteria as well? Did you have live rock of any kind, or dry rock?

I started with Ammonia, Seachem Stability (the bacteria), and Reef Savers dry rock, and 90 lbs of new Tropic Eden sand.

I added my substrate and some dead rock, along with a small baggy of sump mud and macro algae from an existing tank. Cycle was done in 3 weeks.
