Hey guys,

I am looking at buying salt to start mixing my own. Any suggestions? I was looking at either Tunze Reef Excel or Red Sea Coral Pro. Or Seachem?

Thoughts?

seachem's salinity is all the rage now

most people seem to be beyond happy with it

it is pricey but it comes in 225g buckets i think and is actually supposed to make the gallons stated at 1.026 where as most others don't
not exactly sure which of our sponsors carry it but if you look around i believe there is about a $10 difference in prices on the big buckets ...just start calling them

It does mix at 1.026 which is very nice. Aqua imports in boulder has it for $80 for a 225g bucket.

I have tried many salts over the years and pay the extra upfront for Seachem salinity, it holds the balance of Alk, Cal. and Mag much longer than any others I have used, thus cutting down on dosing. It does mix up hotter (really hot), has a weird smell at first and can be cloudy, but I think it is miles above the others.
I use it and I am the cheapest guy I know, except maybe Don.

+1 on it mixing up really weird. Smell is terrible. But I love it! Also when you do the math 225 gallons at 1.026 for 80$. Vs others which mix at 1.023. It really is about the same cost and in some cases cheaper than other quality mixes
