The day I started my tank I promised the wife we could have a trigger one day (I had no idea what I was talking about then, LOL). After being hounded for the past 2 years Ive decided to take the dive (or risk if you will). After alot of research I have come to the conclusion that the addition of a small male blue jaw trigger may not be a bad idea, seems to be the best option for a trigger in a mixed reef, and I figured if I got him small he would easily be put in his place by the others in the tank if need be. Anyone have any experience with triggers in mixed reefs? Any thoughs on the blue jaw trigger?

And last but not least, anyone have one they want to get rid of, or does anyone know where I might get one locally?

Pink tails are also very good, many times better than the blue jaw. I have one about to go in my 225 that came out of a successful reef

Had a Niger in my tank for over a year... Couldn't keep clams and he'd get at every crab and shrimp he could, but never touched a coral. He was very personable too! I've got a humu humu now... So far it's not looking good...

+1. My Niger doesn't ever mess with my corals. The strange part is that my coral banded shrimp and Niger are buddies. He goes up to the shrimp and opens his gills for the shrimp to clean his mouth AMD gills. Very wierd..

My coral banded shrimp is an ***hole. Hes begun eating my peppermint shrimp after being in the tank for a year and not doing this and picks on the chromis at night when theyre trying to hide. LOL

I've been thinking about getting rid of mine. It's a 4" male. I got him about 3 weeks ago. He has been in my 200G FOWLR, eats like a pig and doing great. I got him because I thought my kids would love him, but they're not really excited about him so I'll probably take him to the fish store for a credit if you don't want him. He has a few fin nips from a nasty hippo tang that beat everyone up for 2 days before I caught and isolated it. Let me know if you're interested and I can take more pics.

I have a Male Blue Jaw Trigger in my 180g reef. He has been absolutely awesome to have in the tank. He has not picked on any inverts. I have two cleaner shrimp, anenome crab and various hermits. He does not bother any of my fish. I would like to get him a female some day. The only thing that I have not tried yet is a clam. So I need to find a cheap clam to try out. Very personable fish and cool to watch.
