OK this is weird but some good news. I just got the tank downstairs so I could check out if it was going to fit differently to the top of the stand. The weird thing is it fit a lot better than the old one. I was able to put in some shims underneath the plywood (not between the tank and the top) on the back corner which was still not touching quite right and that fixed it! Now all the corners and edges are touching. Yay!!! ;Joyful;Joyful;Joyful I wonder if there was something off with that old tank?

This is the video that I found that showed how to shim underneath the plywood. Of course next time I need to do this step first. :oops::oops::oops: lol

OK so I drilled the new hole for the overflow on the new tank. I didn't quite get one chunk out of the inside of the hole and I ended up honing it off with the drill bit by hand. I was worried if I use the drill it end up a mess or worse. Anyways, the finished hole was a lot better than my first one. I decided to just to over the back return pipes and not drill more holes as I don't feel like pushing my luck anymore. I found a place where I can buy some black PVC 90s that I can use to make return with.

Not much progress today so not a whole lot to talk about just looking a bit at putting the dividers I got for my sump together. I know you were expecting more progress.. :D

Not looking forward on getting my stand lifted out of the basement. :eek:

Yeah I only had to spend $20 on a new 20 gallon long too with the sale going on. I wasn't in the mood for that price to rip apart my old one. lol. Maybe going to use my old 29g setup as a QT anyways if I can. They did have a fancier sump kit model but just wasn't sure if it would take away more space from the center area. I was planning on putting my protein skimmer and the pump for my media reactor in the middle area. Then hopefully I have a bit of room left for maybe a couple of refuge rocks and some cheto if I need it.

I highly recommend a QT tank. If it's up all the time it is easier to use. Loose a tank to pests and you'll regret no using one. I went small so I could just do a 10g swap to completely refresh it.

Go with what your tank needs, no point in filling it up with gear. I have that design for mine, but some of those pieces are 2 or 3 years out.

Yeah if I would have known I didn't need to put the doors on the side actually. I thought I might have trouble getting the sump in the front but it was no problem.. Oh well.. Hope I can get it setup and working good this time. I not sure yet what I want to put into the tank, but hopefully start out with things that are easy to care for and go from there.

That’s why he says it! Lol but it does cut the cycle down by a week or so... instantly at high ammonia.

So couldn't I just buy some ammonia chloride instead or whatnot?

So after it cycles then what should I do? Should I be thinking of adding a fish or corals first? I think Andrew told me but I sort of forgot.

If you have the patience, let it cycle as long as you can. I was taught old school, a 3 month cycle. To me, long cycle = more stable. It isnt much to watch, but it's the biological birth of the tank, so to speak.

Pee in tank its organic ammonia so to speak. By the time you have to put hands in the pee is gone. Its gross but funny.

Just make sure that if you do a long cycle, that you continue to give it an ammonia source during the entire cycle. I personally like to "feed" the tank everyday by adding a small pinch of pellets or flake, but others prefer ammonia chloride or pee (I think food is better because it builds up phosphate eating bacteria in your anoxic zones). If you don't keep a consistent ammonia source during the cycle, you will get a full or at least a mini cycle the moment you add fish to the tank since all the bacteria will die out if they aren't fed.
