Time for a little Rock work.

I ordered 45 pounds of rock from kp aquatics and must say I was really impressed.

I also searched everywhere for tonga. Got some from fellow club member and scrounged everywhere for more. A lot of it was dry and then I scored some live tonga branch in Colorado springs.

Got rock basically scared again thanks Mike.

Then added sand and water....

Ok so tank is not completely full but that is because I need a larger return pump. Tank is gonna have to start the cycle with just a powered and a heater for about a week.


And I know everyone is wondering but ......

I DID NOT FORGET TO PEE IN IT lol.

So are you breaking down the other two tanks once this one is cycled or did you already do that?

About the only thing I have left over from my old tank is a Reeflo Gold Hammerhead/Barracuda, and 2 or the Baldor Hammerheads as backups. The "gold" version was supposed to have better seal reliability. Oh, and I have an extra seal kit.

The plumbing looks great! Very clean. Why the switch from under stand sump, to basement sump?

They have not been broken down yet but will be once this tank is ready to go.

I ordered a sicce pump. I went basement sump because I just really like having more space to work and places for equipment.


I am still undecided on if I am going to add more sump space or not. Once the new return pump shows up going to run a power fail test to see what the next step is.

And the water is flowing it appear that no leaks are noticeable yet.

The first photo shows simulation of power off. Looks like the sump can hold it.

Fts and top down shot. I really like how the tonga stacks. It really makes for good hiding spots for all the fish.

The skimmer is installed.

Now I need to think about cord management I have a couple really good ideas but need to draw them out on paper.

The rest of the build will come much slower while I let the tank cycle and just settle in.

I know it has been a long while since I posted. A lot has happened and a lot of corals have been lost.

I have really been struggling with this new tank set up. I assumed maybe because it was new. Maybe to much light.

I’d absolutely get a fire worm out (so he doesn’t sting you) but I doubt the issues you’ve been describing could be attributed to it. My guess would be too much light, possibly unstable alk? Or nutrient issues based on your busy schedule. Let’s get your trident going on that tank and do water changes of 10 gallons every week and see what happens.
