    Aiptasia Control Question

I added some peppermints to my system recently and they did a decent job on the aiptasia, but then started eating coral. They completely consumed a rainbow stylophora and then started on my purple stylo. So they do sometimes eat coral - from reading, it seems they like pocilloporidae in...

DBTC Jake Adams Yellow tip acro

I'm planning to come by reefstock late afternoon today if you still want to pass off that frag there (should be there around 2 pm ish)

    Bimac tank build

OK let me check if I can wrangle up a bunch and will let you know... wish I'd kept them all the other day when I cleaned out the socks. Might be more in there by now.

We need more octopus vids... I just cleaned a filter sock the other day that was loaded with huge amphipods - if you find yourself running low at all, let me know. Maybe you have a good supply from your systems.

DBTC Jake Adams Yellow tip acro

I'd be honored to have a frag of that and could meet you at Reefstock. Interested in frag of anything in return? I have at least 4 corals that originated at one point with colonies jake had at the studio, including this interesting birdsnest he wrote about...

Relaxing by the Reef - Reef tank ASMR videos

Gotcha. Makes sense. I am debating putting the BTAs / pink skunk clowns I have into my new 120, for exactly the reason you mention - wandering BTAs are no fun when you have corals they sting, plus powerheads they might mince themselves on. I've had some luck getting them to stay on a rock...

Can you relocate the rock they are on to a better viewing spot?

Relaxing by the Reef - Reef tank ASMR videos

This is awesome, Angel. I think even with all the super fancy high end livestock we have these days, having some clowns and an anemone is still about the coolest thing to watch in a reef tank. I could stare at them all day... lol.

    120 Build

Yeah, I think you are totally correct about that, regarding the slime coat. I actually had a pink skunk clown swim into this carpet nem a few months ago and it was nearly killed / eaten. Had been hosting in bubble tips and obviously wasn't ready for the carpet nem. Not sure if he was kind of...

A quick search shows there are actually at least a dozen studies showing increased hard coral growth rates due to seabird derived nutrients. Kind of a weird stretch to link the article I posted to misinformation in BRS videos... :). I was merely trying to reinforce your point about nutrient...

    120 Build

I picked up a pair of black clarkii clowns about two weeks ago, with the hopes that they would live in my green haddoni carpet anemone. Tonight they finally dove in. Stoked about that. You can also see a little bit of a porcelain crab at the bottom of the photo. Curious if the fish kick it out...

Not to highjack your thread too much, but this recent scientific article was really interesting to me, and related to points above by JDA https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-76759-2 TLDR: the main finding of the paper is that corals (e.g., acropora) grow way faster near islands with...

    February MASC Meeting - Chili Cook-Off @ Underwater Wonders - Feb. 1st @3:30pm

Agreed. Big thanks to the MASC organizers and the Underwater Wonders folks for opening up their shop to us. Nice having a meeting up north, and meeting some new folks. I always leave that shop inspired to work on my own tanks and improve them. Lucky to have it in in FOCO.

19 Fish Package, $200 for all

If anyone wants to snag these and part them out, I'd have a good home for the clowns with my haddoni carpet nem. Would potentially take a few others, but don't have space for them all. Awesome deal for someone.

Right on. I would probably go heavier on snails for a tank that size... you could easily add 10 to 20 in there once the algae gets going.

Ditto what they said. I have lots of easy SPS if you want any of those when you're ready (pocillopora, stylophora, seriatopora, montis, etc) Do you have some algae eating inverts to help keep the algae in check? I like astrea snails, trochus snails, and turbo snails. Nassarius are good for the...
