Biocube vs. Nano cube

I gave it an honest effort searching for this thread or postings pertaining to the title. SO...I'm looking to get my lady a Biocube or Nano-cube. She loves them and is probably even more excited about reefing than me. That said, we are both new to SW but not aquatics. Are there pros/cons between the two or are they basically the same in quality, maintenance, and sustainability? Just looking for some informed opinions, not looking to start a war. ;)

A Biocube is considered a AIO(all in one) Nano. Unless someone started a nano brand name, the question may need revision. The term "Nano" is typically used to describe aquariums between 5 and 20ish gallons of water. I dig my 14 gallon Biocube, but I scrapped the lid for a LED fixture. Have a 750ml Jim Beam bottle for top off and a air driven skimmer I modified for a pump. I need to take updated pictures now that I loaded it up this week while taking down other systems.

i like the biocube because it's an all in one,
but if you can i would get the biocube HQI because it has a fuge chamber built in instead of a wet/dry..................and instead of pc bulbs it has an hqi mh.... con heat
........it kinda depends on what you want to keep

I should have clarified in the title and my OP. JBJ makes a "Nano Cube" very similar to the Biocube. I'm just curious if one is cheaper to maintain and replace parts, or if one of them has better quality parts for sustainability, etc.

I got my laity a 28g nano cube
and I love it wish it was my tank
dual pumps that make for ample flow and the wave switch duo that switches the pumps
"wetdry" filter thing that you can put 3 different types of media in
or easily change over to a refugium
4 led moon lights
a single 105 Watt 50/50 power compact bulb
its a great setup I really love it for her I mean lol
and completely upgradable when the time comes

Ahhh ok, now it makes more sense. I would get the oceanic. I like their customer service better(I have dealt with both). Either way I would scrap the top. It needs the room for a decent skimmer and top off. I know the 14 Biocube with oceanic skimmer is $200 shipped from petkiller(petco.com) because I know someone who ordered one today.

I have a BC29 and love it, I have no experience with the JBJ. I just scraped my stock hood and put in LEDs. You might also want to check out the all-in-ones elite sells, they are pretty sweet as well. Not sure of all the sizes, but they have a 39 gallon I would trade for my BioCube in a heart beat. They also have some smaller sizes. They cost a bit more, but look to be better units then the JBJ and the biocube.

I did ALOT of research on this very topic, and ultimately decided to go with the Oceanic BC 14. It was between that and the JBJ nanocube 12. I read a lot of good things about both, but ultimately went with Oceanic for their customer support, and for the extra 2 gallons :) If you do go with Oceanic, here is a great resource:

It covers all things biocube, including all of the different upgrades, modifications, do's and don'ts with these systems. Good luck with your decision!

I just got a JBJ 28 LED. Its cycling now and so far I really like it. I will say one thing however JBJ's customer service sucks the hemorrhoids off Bigfoot's @$$!

And I tell them so in an email every week or so.:)

Well we figured we also would like to have some sort of "shelf" above the tank so that we didn't have to constantly be bending down and grabbing stuff off of the bottoem shelf of our cabinet (I know lazy) so we bought a little shelf thing that attaches to the wall from walmart and then hung the light from that. It doesn't look "professional" but it doesn't look bad either IMO.

Well, got my better half a JBJ 28 Nano Quad tonight!! We're both pumped about it. Got it already established a bit with some corals and CUC. No fish, which was totally okay with me. Now just need to make sure it's good and ready for a couple clowns and a mandarin. Part of me wishes we would have found a BC...but I'm pretty pleased with this setup! He had the skimmer he bought and never used, wet/dry or refugium options, etc. So over all it was a great buy, had to snag it up!
