Changing one thing about your tank?

If you could change one thing about your tank what would it be? Obviously bigger tank for everyone would be a the one thing. I'm talking about a different lights, sump, wave maker etc. Something that would make you go back and say I want to do this instead of this.

Mine would be a bigger/versitile stand. I have the stand that's made for the 60 gallon cube and it gets tight in there with everything that goes in it. I want to be able to fit my sump, and ATO water as well as drawers and maybe a pull out table to set my test on, hide all my electrical better. I could go on and on with this but I'm sure you all get my point.

Of course there are a lot more thing I would do but I wanted to keep it just to one item that would be some what of a game changer for me. I'm sure people with custom tanks and plumbing have thought of everything but I think a few would change things around as well.

I would've set it six more inches away from the wall. :)

Thats a good question. I always setup a tank then think what if...... So for my current display I would have changed the sump to a lower water level, I have a 20L and made the baffles myself. I put the first chamber all the way up to the top and an inch or two lower would be very nice, infact I think I will correct that the next time I do maintenance.

you plan on cutting one of your baffles on your sump? Wouldn't you have to re-glue it? I'm asking because on of my baffles in my DIY sump is a little to high and I need to fix it. Checking to see if there is another way to do this.

I'm going to try and cut it in place once I drain the water out of it. If not I might have to replace it. Did you get my PM?

I'm with Jodil, 6 inches would have made a lot of things easier lol. I had the tank sitting empty for a week to make sure I liked it, and still didn't give myself enough space. Try to forsee everything, but can't always predict what you might want.

I have found that an hour or reading will save you many headaches. Research and research some more.

Wish I had a least another foot behind my tank and a an elevated walkway to access the back.

I really like the idea of a pullout shelf to set tests. My tank is on the tall side ( about 5.5 feet tall )
I'm wishing I had an integrated step-up.

+1 for additional space between wall and tank, but since I'm just echoing others, I'll state another one. I wish my sump and associated pump noise were in a separate location from the display. Can't seem to maneuver/pad the return/reactor pumps to obtain silence!

The only change I would make to my system is to not put my sump way up high on a stand. In my sump room I thought it would be nice to have my sump up high so I didn't have to bend over or neel down for maintenance and that has been very nice. I also envisioned having all the space under the sump for extra equipment such as reactors and storage.

However,
I find that many different types of reactors and other various equipment can have a tendency to develop small leaks over time or just develop salt creep at the seals that eventually get all over the floor and is just overall a little less convenient to get to for cleanup and maintenance. Not too mention by placing my sump so high up I pretty much eliminated any good way of tying my frag tank into the sump of my main system without also elevating my frag tank to an unreasonable height.

If I had it to do over I would have placed the sump down lower with an acrylic or glass self/drip tray above the sump so any small nuisance leaks could just flow back into the sump. I am still able to do this to some degree but its not as nicely thought out. I did however end up building a drip try for my calcium reactor as the model I have is notorious for leaking at the recirc pump. I still need to tap a hole at the corner of the tray for any leaks to flow into the sink.

Some pics for reference.

His fishroom and setup is a thing of both science and beauty. It's like when you're at a large gathering, and the most beautiful woman in the room is also smart enough to put the rest to shame.
