Clown Gobies, Reef Safe?

#1
So ill start this by saying that clown gobies are widely considered to be reef safe and I just introduced a bunch of them into my tank. I really like that they are small and like the way that they look. However I think I may have made a big mistake. I watch them nip at my corals and my tank went from having huge polyp extension to very little. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will my corals get used to it? should I get them out?

+1 this is why I have eviota & trimma gobies. They lay eggs on the underside of branching sps corals in the wild.

I love the way they look, but hate the way they behave, they should not be considered reef safe at all, they will nip at most any corals.

Rocky lol u made a good point. I introduced a ton! Like 8 per tank. I almost have them all out of one! L anyone want some clown gobies!? I'll let em go real cheap! In all seriousness I'm lucky they aren't too hard to catch

I'm in Broomfield I'm thinking like 4$ per and I've got like 10-15 all colors green yellow and black. Thing is I've got to finish catching them all :). Might take another day

mine was "reef safe", he didn't eat any coral or inverts I had in there with him. I found out that they nest in SPS, so to keep acros with them only if the acro is a colony, no frags or the goby would kill it. I also find out that they kill each other off if kept in too small a tank. I loved the little guy, but he hated any food I gave him.

Brotha, zoas and lps looked fine, but no PE on whatever sps they touched. which they each seem to host to a different coral. I had to break down to get rid of them.GL

I got a clown goby from Sugaree and it made a home of my tort and kept it from opening up. I would chase it off and it would be right back 2 minutes later. The tort sopped extending it's polyps soon after. I got rid of that fish with the clown. good riddance... tort is fine now
