Cyano is winning.

I have been having a cyano issue the past month and the normal methods if removal are not helping win this battle. I have done multiple water changes and removed what I could manually just to find it back the next day. I have cut back on feelings even though I feel like I don't feed much to begin with. What else can I do to get rid if this nastiness? All the help and advice is greatly appreciated.

what size tank and how much clean up crew?
It's a 30 gallon tank with what I would say is a decent sized cuc. One thing I do not have is any bristle worms or other miscellaneous cuc creatures that I used to have in my other tank. I am wondering if those guys make a big difference.

I have a wide array of CUC in my 180g, 150+ nassarius, 100 dwarf ceriths, 25 florida ceriths, handful of nerites, a few sallt lightfoot crabs and over 100 dwarf hermits... but i also have a conch, sand sifting goby and 10+ shrimps. Honestly if the sand isnt being moved, that can account for alot of it. the other is flow... if your flow isnt moving the water near the sandbed... it might just be sitting. that said... too much flow can also cause some unwanted algae. IMO id snag u either some small nassarius' or grab a conch... they seem to do the trick for me. Unless you want a fish... then id go diamond goby all the way

I would say first carefully vacuum up what you can with an airline tube. Then increase your flow by either adding another power head that hits the problem areas or adjust your power heads. You might also consider getting some Cerith snails if you don't already have some and try reducing the photoperiod.

Here's some other questions that may help us help you. How old is the tank and are you running a protein skimmer? What is your stocking list and how much/what are you feeding? What is your light schedule?

I have an mp10 running about 60% and it seems to get good flow all over for the most part. I have considered adding a smaller power head to the opposite side of the tank pointed lower and going behind my scape. I currently have 2 clowns and a single Bangaii cardinal. The tank has been up for a little over a year now. I run a split photo period of 8 hours which I did on my last tank with no issues. It's usually 10 hours split but gha forced me to shorten it. I feed once every two days but very sparingly and perform a 4 gallon water change once a week.

I would love a conch. Can't find one locally. Been waiting on the list at elite for one. I guess I could replenish my cuc a bit.

+1, and Ambrosio can get them in, check with him and see, i havent seen any at his place lately but that might not mean if a special request for one comes it that he cant get his hands on it. He seems to be able to get his hands on anything people ask for!!

Rodi from elite which I have tested at 0 tds. I've used their water for years with no issue. I'll make mike test it for me to make sure that's not the issue.

Ill pm him. I also don't want a huge conch. It's only a 30 so it would be a special special request lol. Would 2 small conchs, say 1"-1.5" each be an issue? Or would I be better off with one decent sized one?

Not sure if the GFO will help but try the nutrient export and lights off for a couple of days plus higher flow.

Along with all of the great suggestions from above, which you should try first, you could dose with Chemi-clean to get ahead of it.
A lot of people are afraid of chemi-clean, but I have used it with great success. Just remember it will get rid of the Cyano, but not the cause of it. You will still have to figure out what the cause is (how often do you change filter socks?) but this will help you get ahead of it for sure :) Oh, and follow the instructions to the letter... turn off skimmer add airstone, and if in doubt on actual water volume under-dose!

I just completed a cycle on my 90 after changing out the sand. Did a 20 gal water change and 2 days later another 20 gal. Than was able to turn the skimmer back on. I would also suggest dosing bacteria to get your bacteria levels back in check. I recommend zeo bak from zeovit

I've used chemical clean twice now, and it works great! No problems either time... Both were full reef.

Does anyone have any chemi clean laying around that they aren't using that I could try? They are pretty small doses correct?

I can give you 30g worth no problem, just three small scoops. I call chemi-clean the reset button. Still not addressing the cause but getting control again.
That sounds awesome. I could go buy some but it seems pretty expensive for something I will hopefully only need once. I can pay you something if you'd like.
