Debelius' purple reef lobster

I just picked up a purple reef lobster today. I currently have him in the refugium because I know that some say they are less than reef safe. I'd like to add him to the display but with 3 skunk/cleaner shrimp and numerous other inverts and some small fish I'm wondering if I shouldn't just set him up a personal tank.
Does anyone else keep one and have you had any positive results?

This one is pretty fair sized. I'd say 3"-4" but so cool to watch. I'd hate to leave him in the refugium where I'll never see him.

These are fascinating critters, but they don't necessarily get along with other crustaceans. Your shrimp will most likely fall prey to the lobster. Your fish should be fine, though all ornamental lobsters can become aggressive if underfed. There are mixed reviews having these guys in a reef. They like to dig and you will need to create a space for him.

He'll leave most of your corals alone.... but could bury a few that were on the bottom where the burrow was dug. You'll probably be happier with him in a dedicated tank. I know your shrimp will appreciate that.

I've still got him living in my sump/refugium. I just checked on him while the pumps were off and it looks like he molted. There isn't any sand in my refugium but there are a bunch of rocks that I've fashioned into a cave and he seems pretty happy with it. I'm definitely planning a tank just for him though. It has to be the most beautiful sump dweller one could possibly have but I'd rather be able to watch it.
Thanks for the reply and I'll update on his status once in a while.
