because it is dry rock that has no denitrifying bacteria on it. Add a piece of live rock with the marco rock
and the bacteria should quickly colonize the marco rock.

I'd rinse them off before adding them directly to the tank.
I've never used the rock but I'd probably add them to the tank after a rinse.

I just washed it and put it in, but I did read one person who did that and decay lead to MASSIVE nitrate/phosphate spikes. I would suggest if you are worried about it, put it in a bucket of water for a few days and then test parameters to see if there is any crud on the rock. Dry rock can still have significant organic material on it.

I say rub a dead fish all over it, drop it in, and look the other way for a few days.
