Oh ya I forgot about Roku. Is there a difference in what the two will do? Which do you like better?

Are the channels on Roku free or do you have to pay for them? I assume you have to pay for netflix (or have account already) and Hulu the same ya?

Roku is nice that you don't need to use a phone to control it but any video that's on your phone you can display on chromecast

We use chromecast at work. Never tried streaming from a phone, but we connect from our PC for presentations.

I have my PC directly connected to a TV for Netflix...the better half just bought a smart TV and can login to her Netflix account directly thru comcast. I think that's going to be more reliable than chromecast if you're in the market for an upgrade anyway. Our chromecast does have odd lag issues at times...but it's pretty insignificant for just running webinars and presentations.

For 40 bucks it gets the job done...but for 8 bucks you can get a hdmi adapter from china for your smartphone and plug it right into the TV to stream Netflix or whatever you want.

I liked my chromecast for watching netflix. I suguest it if you have a 5ghz capable wifi router. The 2.4 ghz band is a tad too slow for running hd video. Its fine for standard resolution stuff though.

i made a post about this a few months back lol but yeah I use it and I like it. i think they even started letting you stream your own content via an app but I haven't tried it yet. Streams better than my dvd player though for netflix and youtube. Theres an HBO app too but I dont have HBO

I sell them and own one. I love it. Works great for Netflix and YouTube and the app to play your own content works great as well. I highly recommend it.

What smartphone do you have? Some models have hdmi ports and if yours does I have an Beni cable that would work from the phone to the tv. I work at Verizon so anything smartphone related I kinda know my stuff and we carry pretty much every accessory you could use to do what you are wanting.

My wife and I both have Samsung S3s.
I personally recommend the chromecast if you have multiple phones you'd like to connect. Plus while con acted to the chromecast you are able to use the other functions of the phone while you are watching a video. If you get a phone call or a text when you're using a cable it will interrupt whatever you are doing. I can be playing a Netflix movie for my son and be on masc or on a phone call at the same time and it doesn't interrupt the video.
