How accurate and precise are the handheld Hanna colorimeters for a alk, cal, phosphate low range? any experience would be helpful. I am wanting to buy these just need reviews on if this is even accurate on tests?

is it worth getting a alk, and a cal, one? Any one else offer accuracy of the alk, and cal, cause I'm might be getting them today.

I think it is going to be trial and error, as some people love certain testers and will never change while others like the hannas due to them being easier. I have never owed one but have seen them used and I sometimes think that it looks top be just as hard to test with the Hannas as any other. Has anyone done a life time cost comparison?

I love my new to me ,phosphate checker always used the api test which always read zero. Now I at least have a # to work with. How accurate, I don't know but better than what I had.

I like my ul phosphorous checker so far. A lot better, I feel, than the Salifert phosphate test I was using and always getting a reading of zero with.

I've read several accounts where the phosphorus checker produces very accurate results in line with the several hundred dollar phosphate meters.

I like the Hanna checkers, the cal one is a lot more involved than the Alk, and I had questioned its accuracy compared to the Salifert kit. Turns out my salifert was the one that was off. To me its worth the cost for consistency, no miss counted drops miss interpreted colors etc

They are no easier than the drop tests. I do think they are more accurate. Less human error involved. IMO

I like the Po4 checker enough that I have decided to invest in alk and Ca. IMO they are more work than a regular drop test kit but I didn't buy it for convenience.

You must run up the escalator at Sears backwards and naked while singing " I am the queen of France" and simultaneously trying to eat your own head with a plastic spork.

A Hanna nitrate checker? Didnt know they came out with one, I know Hanna makes a photometer for nitrate but not a checker.

Anyways I LOVE my checkers. I wish every test was through a checker. I use alk and ULR phosphorous. I had the phosphate one but sold it. Nothing wrong with it, it just seems that the phosphorous checker is better at the lower range we test for. I don't have any use for the calcium checker since I don't 2 part dose.

IMO its more about consistency then it is about accuracy. With the checkers it helps take the human interpretation out of the equation, making for more consistent results.

I just picked up the ALK, Calc checker from Marine Depot...only $44 right now! I was gonna go for the PO4 but decided that if I'm running a GFO reactor there really no sense in picking one up....although after reading this thread I'm questioning that decision. Anyone have a second hand PO4 checker for sale? :)
