How To Catch A Pistol Shrimp

Cleaner Shrimp

I recently acquired a Pistol Shrimp and he is making a mess of my tank. (I had a foot of sand piled against the front glass this morning) I would like to get him out ASAP. Anyone have any good ideas besides taking out all of my rockwork to get him?

Maybe try a home made trap like you would use for a mantis shrimp?

BTW - I would love the Pistol for my tank, if you are able to get him out of there. :)

good luck, those little bastards are almost blind but they always see you coming. I tried to trap my old one, but he ended up coming out when the tank was broken down. Pistol= death to chalices or anything on the sand bed.

I tried traps for my pistol but in the end I had to pull all my rock out. Never again... lol

I hope that's not the case. I just put it all in and finally got it the way I like it. Looks like I may have a weekend project. While I'm at it I may pull out my Dot-Dash Cardinal aka Orbic Cardinal fish. He's been chasing my Pajama's if anyone wants him.

I caught my peppermint shrimp and cleaner shrimp but I can't catch my bullseye pistol. All the small fish that slept in the same rock area he sleeps in also end up dead. I've lost two anthias and a yasha goby.

My pistol shrimp was the meanest thing ever. He would even go after my hand. Traded it to Elite and they wouldn't even sell him, think Heather even said he snaped her. If I had a smaller tank I would have kept him, now that I think about it.

I had a pistol in my old 55 that I sold a few years back. It came in with the live rock, and was fun to watch. I wanted to keep him when I sold the tank, but my wife said we were done with tanks. I'm back in the hobby, and it would be very easy to throw a pistol into a pico with some rocks, and give him his own playground.

I have a regular brown pistol and he digs a little but is pretty cool hanging out with my yellow watchmen goby. The yasha moved over to where the bullseye lives and I thought, oh great they're going to start a relationship. The next morning the yasha was all beaten up blowing against the rocks. We have the surround sound going, explosions rocking the furniture and we can still hear him snap over the noise. He frightens me :(
