A link about the mall shooting, could have been a lot worse. Media didn't think this was overly important for us to know about. The shooter was loaded for bear and when confronted by a CCW he chose another action. CCW holder was trained not to take a unclear shot. This is why I am a CCW and would have done the same.

I saw that as a "side headline" and figured it didn't promote the current agenda sparked by EVIL in Conn., so it was in a sense buried. I remember not long ago in Salt Lake City, an off-duty Officer stopped a mall shooter loaded down with guns and a backpack of ammo, by exchanging gunfire and containing him to an area until the Calvary arrived. That is/was the best example I've seen of trained CCW people (Officer in that case) saving tons of lives. Almost ALL of these "shooter" are complete cowards and just like the average street thug, they run and hide like cockroaches when faced with their same level of force.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of EVIL is that good men do nothing." - Sir Edmund Burke
I picked the word EVIL out because in my estimation, that is to the core what is being missed here. Americans continue to further separate themselves from any moral compass and our founding beliefs. EVIL exists in this world. As American society has "progressed" it has begun to look for excuses and reasons for EVIL acts. I am completely overwhelmed with disgust every time I hear that a person who has committed evil acts had a mental illness. When Americans can't understand evil, which they shouldn't, finger-pointing and the blame game ensues. I see/face evil everyday. You can't explain it away or say that anyone who commits a terrible crime was mentally ill and therefore just needed "help." It's not that simple. To try and compartmentalize something this terrible/evil into something that was "preventable" if only the person could have been "screened" or treated is completely asinine, IMO!
There are NO answers other than evil exists, always has and will continue to do so well after all of us are gone. To think that legislation/laws, "screening", or control of weaponry will fix the problem is the most comical part to the discussion. As long as Man will have malice in their heart, heinous acts will continue, with whatever weapon is available even if its the all forgotten "two hands".
I'm not going to argue one way or another on gun control. I just cannot stay silent on the issue of "explaining away" mental illness as a reason for evil acts. Evil is the reason for evil acts. We cannot understand, and should not be able to understand as those who do not embrace evil, how it works and why. That separation is a good thing. Just understand that it exists and remain vigilant for when it rears it's head...it CANNOT be prevented!!!! ALL of human history has proven this, how arrogant can any American be to think WE can be the first society in history to prevent evil from occurring?!?
End soap box. Let us continue to be vigilant, to save as many as we can when Evil does appear and support, love and console those who are affected afterward. I have been completely numb as I have visited all the schools and visited with teachers and staff last week. Rest in peace, all those taken too soon.
