Leaving town for 10 days

So I'm headed to London in April and I am getting nervous about the girl watching my house, which also includes my second child (my reef). Any pointers from someone who has left their tank in the hands of others for that long?

Was thinking of freezing foods into small cubes so she can't over feed. RO is manual so that shouldn't be an issue. I normally use kalk but thinking I will just big water change before and after my trip, so no dosing needed. Lmk your thoughts and any other suggestions please.

I think the portioned food is a good idea

In the past I've partitioned frozen food in those pill dispensing boxes. Makes it even easier if you feed every 2-3 days as you can leave some of the days in the box empty so they clearly know not to overfeed.

If you are worried about the lack of dosing over the 10 day stretch and would like to give yourself a little more room for error, decreasing the photoperiod by an hour or two while you're gone could also be helpful.

i always leave little dixie cups with the food (mine chages daily) and i wright the date on them for when they should be fed. Simplify everything you can in order to make sure nothing goes wrong. also have the person stop by for a few days in a row so they know what the tank should look like so if something is wrong they will know it.

x1000 on this. Seriously. Leave it on a sticky note on the tank. I got a call from Dv3 when a local member was out of town and his kids poured a bunch of packing peanuts into his tank. His wife was a little wrecked as the skimmer just kept overflowing.

Since I only work a few minutes from your house I could stop in a couple nights a week and check on things for you.

I'm a new-jack... But... I'm not far, but I work several days in the next week. I'm an amateur, but if no one else is able to help for that 10 days, I'm willing to head over for a few feedings, etc

I copied Virgils idea on feeding frozen. Get a small condiment looking container from a hobby shop, you know the ketchup looking ones you see at restaurants. Put as much food as you'd like her to feed in there. Show her how much to put in and at what frequency, as in two squirts every other day. I just had the gf take care of mine for a week, everything went smoothly.

For future reference, you might want to look at a controller if you're going to be traveling often.

Except the tank itself :p

Glad everything made it through safely! I'm already stressing about leaving my tank for my sister's wedding in the fall.
