So I have been looking into upgrading to LEDs for a while now, and have been checking out the Maxspec Marazza's line. Anyone have any input on these? I have known alot of people to have the G2's and love them. But I cant find a whole lot of info on these other then the main specs. Think they have only been out for a month or so. But the price seems amazing for fully controllable LEDs. Alot cheaper then the AI Sols when you start adding more modules. Anyone seen them before? Wondering how big the modules are, thinking I will need at least 2 if not 3 of them for my 48" 120g. And I like that the LEDs themselves can be replaced individually. Also, has anyone seen them selling the UV420 edition?

I have experience with the g160 which is maxspects last gen. It's a great light. Not nearly the build quality of an AI but a great unit.

Yeah...there last lights where just basic LEDs...only difference was you could swap LEDs really easy to get the right color spectrum. Not sure if you could hook up a controller to them or not. But the new ones look incredible. I like the design and being able to swing and pivot them around. I called up the company for further info...sounds like they are going to come out with an ipod hookup also, so you can incorporate sound into the rainstorm modes. Looks like I will need 4 modules cause the 120g has the big center brace in the middle. Dont think I want to mod that. So I will probably be dropping 2G's.

I have a marazza conning in at the endof the week if u want to come see it. I've got a great set of lights that can be compared. AI sol blue, maxspect g160, evolution lighting , and a marazza.

Simple. Spectrum. These lights that offer a narrow spectrum are something we are going to look back on in 2 or 3 years and laugh at. The maxspect, ( and I know AI will make an upgrade for their customers soon), has the wonderful ability to offer a very broad light spectrum.

Why spend 2Gs when you can spend 2.5Gs and get the very best?

Lightning storms and fades out of this make AI lights look like a joke!
Have you guys seen the storm modes and dawn to dusk cycles out of this light? Plus you can swap out the LED's yourself to get the right spectrum for your tank. Im still looking into which light to buy...but I like the options of this. Think I like the option of putting in a couple UV LEDs to get the colors to pop.

Here is the lightning storm mode...think that would give me a seizure. Any lighting with a programmable controller can simulate lightning, storms, etc. So I dont know if I can justify the additional $500. Think it will be hard enough convincing the wife to let me spend $2000 as it is. With 4 programmable light channels I think I can still simulate what I want it to do. Im gonna wait to see what Tripple T's looks like, but it might be hard to get the true picture since he is only going to have 1 module.

Lightning mode is nothing more than a gimmick. Sure its cool to show your buddies when they come over but it seriously has no value. I have never used it with my AI's unless someone wants to see it.

the ability to change leds sells me ...you want a different color change it, leds go bad change it
plus the maxspects will be easier to sell in the future if you chose because not all you $ is tied into one unit

You are going to more than two I would guess. From the video over a 30-36" tank. I do agree the lightning is unnecessary, but the other features are well worth the extra $$. The MaxSpect is cool and I do like the ability to change spectrum, but you will have to spend more money to get more LEDs. The LEDs are square on the Fin's Reef website, so not sure if any model will work or if they are built for MaxSpect.($4.99-$39.99each)And has anyone seen pricing for the Marazza yet? The LEDs on the Vertex are also changeable, but they don't have the spectrum options. Either way Lots of fun to play with. From the videos I have seen, I would take the Vertex, but I would keep my Chinese 120w fixtures over the Mazarra.

I didn't mean to be snide. I just truly believe that spectrum is more important than features and bulb efficiency.
I think you had made you point about spectrum, so your comment about my opinion was snide. Meant that way or not.

They are preselling them on Marinedepot.com and the pricing is very reasonable. Other sites like aquariumspecialty.com and saltysupply.com have been selling them for over a month now.

Funny, None of them come on Google shopping.. I am going to say you will want four modules for a 120. I would put four over my 75. You will get another 80watts with the Vertex 4'. Either way you are getting a damn nice light.

I just didn't intend it that way. But i am a biologist and specialized in marine disease ecology. I also own 5 different types of led and have had the benefit of being able to document my results from each light. The one thing that I have unquestionably noticed is that my maxspect unit ( I have added a nice variation of different wavelength led's) performs far better than my AI and evolution units no matter which tank I place it over. Expensive led with funny little lightening modes are cool to impress friends but the coral sees no benefit. My point is just that as we become more informed on led and coral lighting requirements I can guarantee the trend will be for lights to have a broader more balanced spectrum.
