CALLING ALL MOTORCYCLE RIDERS..
If you ride, please read this.. Yesterday I was riding my sv650 sportbike back from school going about 35mph to take a right. I watched as a Post Office truck inched forward in a perpendicular street ahead of me (she was going to take a right to go the same direction I was going), when at the last second, she pulled out right in front of me and started to go to the center lane. I had no where to go and smashed into the left side of her truck, this made the tail of my bike go straight in the air, and as she pulled forward, my bike flipped around and left tread marks 6 feet high on her truck. She stopped and the bike fell on top of me with the peg digging into my foot (I was somehow still on the bike). I was able to pull it out and stand up. They lady got out and helped me pick up the bike and push it to the side.
Literally 2 minutes later, an ambulance, fire truck, and 3 police officers showed up. I smashed my head against the truck when I hit her, scraped the side of my right hip, and had a nice wound where the peg dug into my foot, let alone all the soreness I have now. But I was wearing my gear!! I had a helmet, big riding jacket, and gloves on. I am ok besides the minor scrapes and bruises.
She ended up getting a failing to yield ticket.
Moral of the story, sometimes there's nowhere you can go but into the vehicle coming at you, EVEN if it's not your fault!!! This was the case for me and I feel lucky as hell to be out with such minor pain. If I wasn't wearing my helmet and jacket, who knows what would've happened to me...
IF YOU RIDE A BIKE, WEAR YOUR HELMET (CRUISERS TOO!)
My family saw the aftermath of a cruiser that was hit, his bike was in a ton of pieces, and he was in a body bag (wasn't wearing gear). Just because you have a big bike, doesn't mean you won't get hurt badly.
For the love of God, don't be an idiot and wear a helmet no matter what!!
Pics... Myself and my bike somehow didn't have that much damage.
