Well, now I know how those of you who build satellites feel!
First a little background.
I work for Boeing as a 787 preflight/delivery QA Inspector. I make sure the factory built it right before the customer gets it. As many know, the 787 has had more than it's share of issues! I started here in 2008 and since, my life has been like a roller coaster. I started on an airplane that was a mess, incorrect fasteners all over the place, missing parts, you name it. We figured it out, finished putting it together and 3 days before it was to fly...DELAY. They found a weakness at the wing to body join. We get that fixed, fly the plane and I transfer to the flight test group. Travel with the plane on remotes...it was cool! Then in Nov of 10...one of the planes catches on fire in flight...DELAY!! We get that issue fixed, along with many others. Finish Flt Test, come back to my QA job, finish building and testing the first delivery plane, (the ones used in flight test take a long time to be refurbed to new) and after much hard work, over 460 hours of OT this year, we delivered the first 787 Dreamliner to our launch customer All Nippon Airways! I felt like a proud papa watching the airplane I worked on climbing out to haul countless people off to untold adventures! I was skeptical about this planes claims, but once I got to know it, it is truly a revolutionary machine! It makes enough electricity to power a neighborhood. It is cool! Sorry if I bored any of you, I am just proud and thought I would share!
