Need help. Pump not working.

#1
I have an external pan world magnet pump and the impeller isn't spinning. I took it apart and it appears the shaft doesn't have any grease on it anymore. The impeller won't spin hardly at all. I soaked it in vinegar but no luck. Is there any reef safe lubricant I can use?

I don't believe it is supposed to be lubricated on the wet end at all. If something managed to get wedged in the impeller (like a shell or something) there might be a chance it burned out the pump. I would imagine it would make a pretty horrendous noise though if that were to happen. I've actually had luck with "tapping" along the side of the pump with a hammer. Based on level of frustration the tap might become smack which might become a beating.....but it has worked for me before. Good luck, I hope it isn't a replacement situation.

I don't know your price range, but this is a heck of a pump, and it's been on CL for 20 days....maybe you can negotiate a lower price?: http://denver.craigslist.org/for/5466287242.html Those Iwaki pumps have been known to run a really long time, and it appears to be in good condition.

I think DarkAngler had some Little Giant pumps, and the prices he was giving on the stuff he wanted to get rid of were insane. I bought a huge return pump capable of pushing water from my basement to the floor above for $25....was originally a $450 pump!
