Hi everyone. Just had the cord break off of my AI Nero 5 on my 10 gallon. AI says they will fix it but I have to ship it off and it'll be a couple weeks before I get it back. Thoughts on my mixed reef staying alive without that flow for that period of time. Should I just pick up another Nero and have one spare?

Pumps are one of those things I always like to have a back up for, although you could maybe just do a small cheap one as a backup. Just need something to keep the surface of the water moving really

I can point my return pump at the surface to increase the flow a little bit but maybe I just buy a crap power head for a couple weeks

Go on the marketplace or CL and see if you can find a $10 powerhead. Maybe you will get lucky and find a tunze pump since they last a long time.

I would not EVER keep AI, EcoTech, MaxSpec or the like on hand as a backup... then the warranty runs out while it is in the box. It is not like any of these are super long lasting.

I have plenty of cheap-o ones that I can loan you. I'm in Ft Collins area. Give me a text if you still need something.

Some of the cheap Chinese ones can elevate Tin. It is part of cheap plastics. If you do ICP and see elevated Tin, then don't worry about it. While the levels might be high, nobody seems to know the set point for Tin and the elevation does not seem to be a big deal in most tanks unless it gets really high.
