So I have been saving my spent DI resin for many years (should have done this ages ago but had been putting it off). Currently I have a 5g bucket of spent resin that is now full, so can't put it off any longer. Its time to recharge it
I will be roughly following this procedure to do so
https://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-09/nftt/index.php
Here's a detailed video on the subject that helps make it clear how and why this is possible.
First before I can start the process I need to collect a few things
Muratic acid (hydrochloric acid)
Lye (sodium hydroxide)
4 new 5g buckets (1 for each, RO water, Rinsing, Lye solution, Muratic acid solution)
Some 2ltr soda bottles
Valve caps for the 2ltr bottles
Colander
Sheer material to cover the colander
Clips to hold it in place
Large ziplock bags to store the resin in afterward
Also Need new batteries for my portable TDS meter
So now on to collect all the stuff I need and wait for a nice day outside to start the process. Stay tuned, more to come
