Rock wall build in established tank?

I have a tank that has two built in over flows that I want to cover up with a egg crate and foam rock wall. Can this be done? I think I have the design down but don't know if it is safe to put one in. Any thoughts?

Don't skimp in the ingrediants. I'm cheap and did, I ended up buying the right stuff and starting over. Which in turn costs twice as much ($$$+time). I had a terrible time getting the foam to stay put, it kept floating. I lodged mine between rocks and a wall.
