I believe you can....the four screws should line up in four different positions. I could be wrong but go ahead and try. If the screws fit and you can tighten them up, it should be fine.

Yeah now that I had to mop the floors from all the water, looks like everything did work. Means that I can place a mag5 into a 3 3/4" space in my sump to run a external skimmer without any issues. Just in case I re-opened the impeller cover and both the cover and pump are symmetrical.

Be very carefull with an external skimmer, IME the pumps need to be cooled by being in the water, when out they over heat leading to other issues.

The skimmer is an Aqua C EV120 which will have the Mag5 in the sump. It won't have any heat issues, but it is good to know for the future.
