Figured I'd ask here before I start the IRS calls.

Where can I find my old employer EIN number? I didn't receive a W2 from him. I've tried looking online and nothing really is helpful for finding this. Better yet, can I just file as is and let the IRS handle it?

Guess I'm just too nice of a guy and gave him an extra few months to get the W2 to me, tsk tsk.

Have any old paystubs? Should appear on there.

The other easy alternative is to just call them and ask :b

Yea, that doesn't make things easy...

Have you tried this site yet: http://www.einfinder.com/

They allow you 3 free searches with a trial membership. I've run into the same issue as you in the past and attempted to use the finder...unfortunately it's not always the most reliable search, especially for small companies that may be registered under a name that slightly differs from the name of the business (especially if parent companies are involved). I tried using it in the past being in the same situation...and came up empty handed. I ended up just not claiming it on my tax forms and allowing the IRS to make the correction since I had only worked there a couple months. Hope you can get this sorted...hate doing taxes...still haven't done mine, lol.

if you use turbo tax they should guide you though the process ...you can still file if you know what the numbers are ....else you report him

If you have your last paystub from that place you worked then you really don't need your w2. This happened to me a few years ago and was able to get all the info from my last paystub. However I have to use a tax guy not turbo tax nor h$r block. it cost me about $200.00 but was worth it in the long run.

Tried that one and feinsearch.com, nothing came up.

Not claiming it?

I'm using turbo tax, I filled out the substitute form. Just wanted if I could find it.

Called the IRS, those guys need to speak up, they said not to worry about it if I'm filling out the substitute form and it wasn't provided to me.

That guy was kinda shady and I can't say I didn't expect issues come tax time. Lesson learned

Perhaps I should be less vocal about these things...but I was bartending at the time, and picked up a gig for a few months that paid mostly tips with a small base pay. I made so little on base pay there that I didn't have much of any taxes taken out of those checks, but my other job put me in a bracket where I basically would've owed a small amount of money for those few months I was there.

So, because my employer did the same thing as yours, I just didn't put that job on my form. The IRS came back and made the appropriate adjustment. No harm done.
