Might also look at a Deep Cycle battery and power inverter i was able to run 4 Korellia Magnums for 6 hours on a battery that hadnt been charged since before my last camping trip
This is my setup plus a trickle charger and a relay to kick it to battery power when the electricity goes out. I had a nice APC UPS (thankfully I'm good friends with the IT folks in my office and they gave it to me when they were reorganizing their warehouse) for a short time but it would only run my MJ mods for a couple of hours before going caput.

Running a heater is going to be a tough requirement. Even small units suck up a relatively large amount of juice when compared to a stream pump or two.

KA - perhaps these will help for ideas/options? I found these in my battery backup folder. None are mine but my system is based off of this one and looks almost identical. I did not wire in the power light, alarm, or all-off switch to my unit as I didn't think they were necessary. My inverter also has a built in alarm (I don't think his did) so I can hear it kick on from across the house should the local breaker to blow.

Also, a true sine wave inverter will be a little more expensive but will do a better job running pumps than a cheaper step-sine model. I saved $20 by using the latter and my pumps do chatter a bit when it kicks on.

Excellent Mike! Thanks for sharing this is what i am talking about. A little bigger than I was thinking but no doubt will run for much longer periods of time.
