Our nano evaporates a gallon a day. Sounds ludicrous, but there's no leak. It's just dry here. The good news is that between the two big tanks and the nano, I don't need to buy a humidifier. :joyous:
My 280 does around 21-30 gallons per week. You can put lids on everything to lower it but then battle high temps and less light for your corals. Its colorado its just dryness out here, high evaporation is pretty normal.
Why are you wanting to put a sock on? Are you having particulate issues? If you get a holder, make sure to get multiple replacements as they'll be needing to be changed every few days
Yeah, i put a lid on my refugium and i am working on one for my sump. Will leave the tank open. The sump doesnt have to be completely covered, every little bit helps though.
I have two 90g tanks connected to my 30g sump. My sump did use bioballs and a drip plate up until this past month. Since removing those I have noticed a decrease in evaporation. My theory is that removing the bioballs and drip plate reduced the amount of water in contact with the air and the time that water was in contact.
My sump seems happier too, Cyano in it is nearly gone now.
My tank (120) Evans about 2 gallons a day in the winter. I think the heaters cause the evap. I only loose about 1 gallon in the summer. An ato and a small tank to supply it takes care if the problem.
