In case no one is able to see the pic Ill do my best to discribe it. It is white-ish / clear a little over a 1/4 inch long and looks kinda like a palm tree with a hole in the center. Looks like little flesh colored things in the trunk. I think it is alive.

Next question: were did it come from?

Next questions: I did not see it untill I put lights in my sump. should I run my lights now? does it need light? Will lights hurt it?

Anyway I think it is cool that this thing just grew :)

It kinda looks like aiptasia but not sure from the picture, most likley it is a filter feeder of some sort with it being in the sump and growing. Can you describe the area where it attaches to the glass....does it look hard or soft, clear or white?

Def aiptasia! I remember a time before forums when whole families would gather round in excitement and gaze at the all wonderfull aiptasia!!! only to have their hopes and dreams doused by the LFS employee selling joes juice to kill the "pest", at $11/oz.

Yeah, they're a pest as far as being invasive like Don said above. They just multiply like crazy, and theres about a billion ways of getting rid of them. Kalk Paste, Aptasia X, peppermint shrimp, shot of calcium. Definitely a lot to choose from.

They spread rapidly, they can sting corals.

search for how to kill Aptasia, you will get about 100 different ways to get rid of them.

Since that one is on the glass, I would take a small container (like a **** test cup) and use it to scrape it off. The reason to use the container is so its spores don't get released and spread in the tank.

As bad as everybody hates them, they are not the worst thing in the world, a mild pest, certainly not going to crash your tank, or climb out and kill anyone.

I have 2 right now. They are on a rock I got from someone else, but the rock had been mostly dry for months, so not sure how they would of lived. But that was the only thing I added to the tank.

I should probably take care of them, but they don't move, and haven't spread for 2 months now. Wondering if I can take that rock out, or if its one of the ones I putty'd in place.

None of you have a biology degree. You are not qualified to identify this!

Really? Why try to start drama in a thread where someone is asking for help? Can't we just let it go?

Back on Topic! I just took the rock out of my tank and zap'd it with the blowtorch. Made a cool little burning and popping noise.
