A couple weeks ago I picked up a 120g reef ready and am super excited to be moving up from my IM 30L.

It is a 4x2x2 reef ready with dual overflows I have an Eshopps R-200 sump with a Your Choice Aquatics DC-13 skimmer to start with.

I am curious as to how to plumb it I did receive the megaflow kits with it but have been looking into running a dual Herbie and then an over the back return any input or help is greatly appreciated.

I am going to take my ap700 off of my 30L and use it in the canopy and plan to run some retrofit t5 fixtures as well.

Dont know what return pump I am going to use yet but leaning towards one of the sicce wifi ones.

This is my first large tank so any tips or recommendations are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

I did a double her bow on a 120 a few years back. I drilled the back for the return. It worked really nicely.

I have a sicce return, not the WiFi, and really like it! It’s “is that thing on” quiet!

Would you happen to have any pictures of how you set up the overflows?

Unfortunately no. I’d go on reef central and look up herbie overflow. I used the smaller hole for the main on each with a gate valve and the larger as the emergency I think. It’s been at least 5 years since I had the tank... 7 or so since I plumbed it. Where do you live?

Bean animal is the best herbie is good. I currently run im gonna call it a modified herbie.

If you have the holes drilled for it go bean animal.
I have seen that but from what I have seen you then have issues with 1 overflow being full of stagnant water

I wouldn't bother with double bean since you have dual overflows. Way too many pipes and you lose the KISS principle. I would do a total of 4 pipes and either make it dual Herbie or make it a separated bean with an extra emergency (Herbie in one pipe, durso in the other, and emergencies in both).

At this point I'm pretty positive I'm doing dual Herbie. Like you said KISS principle it's the easiest with my set up and makes me feel the best with the emergencies

You could also consider doing Herbie in one, durso in the other, and instead of an emergency in the durso side, use that hole to route the return. That gives you a separated bean and you don't need to run the return on the back.
