I set mine to turn on 7am and they ramp slowly from 0%-100 over 3 hours. They maintain that until about 6pm and then ramp down to 0% by 9pm. You can mix the colors to your liking, but I do mine with more UV then blue during the ramp up/down phase and then even it out during the full phase

Mine did similarly when I first introduced him to the QT tank and eventually he found the sand. Although maybe try a wider container for the sand. I used a longer rectangular tub. But either way he should find it eventually

The Halides can provide all the full spectrum light you need, and accent lights should favor the blue and UV light imo. Thats how I light my tank anyway

If you havent yet, go check out Underwater Wonders. They have an incredible assortment of sticks. I have a few really nice sticks from them including a fox flame and a yellow anacro (that I forget the name of all the time)

Not entirely uncommon really. I would just plug a light into it and turn it on and see if it works. If not, its fairly easy to replace the those parts in it. Just gotta order replacements and most manufacturers will have them listed on their sites
