Next month the BOD will be meeting to start planning for the next year. Things we will be planning will be monthly meetings, site improvements, membership campaigns, and more. Before we do that though I would like to get everyone's input on any of that.

There is a bout 8 meeting in the year that need a host or place to hold it. What kind of activities or places would you all like to see for those meetings? Anyone wanting to host a meeting?

I will also be looking at possibly update the software on this site and potentially add some site improvements to help with more user engagement. Do any of you have any idea or thoughts on changes you might like to see on the site?

Here is the general monthly plan for meetings. As you can see some months are already taken, but the other months either need a host or need a meeting idea. Let hear you input

Jan - Open
Feb - Reefstock
March - Open
April - Annual Spring DBTC (needs a host)
May - Open
June - Open
July - No meeting
Aug - Open
Sept - MASC club BBQ (Do we want to do it in a park or someone's house, if so where)
October - Annual Fall DBTC meeting (need host)
November - Coral Extravaganza on the 14th
Dec - No meeting (BOD planning)

Let hear your thoughts. Thanks

As always you know we’re happy to host, but one of the things I’ve always wanted to do was see other folks tanks.

Underwater wonders had expressed an interest in hosting again.

Tank tours, coupled with a brewery trip? I’m kinda thinking like the first time Jacob had all of us over to see his system, those in attendance will likely never forget that. There has to be some hidden gems out there…

I know Tank of the Month has had somewhat of a checkered past, but there has to be some way of building excitement and interest/enthusiasm that doesn’t cost the club a ton of cash or resources but brings in the people.

I like the new emoji’s! :cuteangler: Enough of a site upgrade for me!

Ya, Underwater wonders is defiantly on the list of possible for the year, as is A to Zoa. Just need them to commit to a specific date for those.

Tank tours would be great if we have some members that want to host that kind of thing. (especially members with tanks we haven't seen before or haven't seen in a long time) Or maybe a few members who are close to each other, and we could make it a multi tour with, maybe the last stop being at a local brewery or something.

:MASC: send :NudiPurple:s

Last year we did the chili cook off at Underwater Wonders in January, because I had just had my wisdom teeth removed and couldn’t eat any of the chili. Since there isn’t anything on the books do January I’d like to toss this out as an option if Underwater Wonders has any January availability.

I like the idea of tank tours, but I agree getting people to commit to letting other members come to their houses can be a challenge.

I think our last experience with TOTM should help us see that it is not sustainable long term. We had a lot of the same tanks showing up month after month and they just took turns winning. Maybe an alternative would be some kind of contest that runs every other month might be cool that’s not just TOTM. If we could work out the details or any other ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe where ever we have the January meeting could be our annual chili cook off?

Or different "weight classes" like 0-10 gallons, 11-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-120, 121-250 using the display tank volume as the level. Each month could be a rotating class, 6 per year? This would keep someone from always winning and showcase nano tanks, midsized, and large?

That would be fun. Only problem with that though is we don't have nearly enough active members for that

Making TOTM quarterly might work pretty good. I think we can make that work. And I like the idea on making every January meeting the new annual Chili Cook-off, although I think maybe we should have it in different locations/stores each time

Maybe quarterly? Might be easier to keep up with it…..
I was actually thinking something like automation of the month, water change station of the month, basic system of the month, lighting of the month, most exotic coral of the month....Just create a theme and go with it. And definitely moving it to either every other month or quarterly.

Quarterly TOTM sounds like a great change!

Consider monthly/quarterly progress winners. Can be a new tank that is coming along, or an established tank that is still humming. The key is participation in the thread/board and not so much just a take-a-look snapshot. This way, anybody who participates has a shot.*

On another topic, see if any locals can give a 20-30 minute presentation on stuff. There are smart people around here and you don't always need Dr. Joshi, Rich Ross or the like to come to town. I can do them on why nitrogen is what you want (not nitrate), same with phosphorous (not phosphate). If people care, the whole saga or Vibrant, which I wrote up for one group (as a warning about trusting manufacturers) and/or why full spectrum light is still important in some cases.

*The whole point of the 1 year build contest was participation and frequent updates and stuff.

I like that idea of having reefing talks. Lots of knowledgeable folks in the area who I'd enjoy hearing from.

Anyone know what's up with NOCO reef club? I'm curious why folks started a new club instead of trying to revitalize this club. Not trying to start drama, just curious what the rationale was for a second club that looks to be hosting similar events.

I like the idea of doing a few reef talks for the monthly meetings, if we have people willing to do the talks, and somewhere to host it

As far as the NOCO reef club goes. I wont get into all the details here, but We offered to co-op things with them, and sadly they seem content to divide the community. They also seem to be trying to directly undermine MASC as a whole. I don't really understand their motivation with that as it will only serve to undermine both clubs in the end. Coral con and Biggs are backing them and are a big part of the ones pushing for the divide as far as I can tell.
Whatever their motivation is, our stance is to just let them do as they will, and we will do what works for us. Either we will find some middle ground, or people will come to realize that they have other motives besides supporting the community

I came here to say happy Holidays to you all! I'll try to attend a couple events next year, starting with the chili cook off next month. Thanks to everyone contributing to keep this forum and club alive. Hope to see some of you soon.
