Obviously not all that successful at keeping the hair algae in check. I added a bunch of turbos in addition to a cleaner crew package.

I’ll get there eventually. I mainly want to clean up the mangrove roots so that the future pipe fish can dance around back there.

I’m slowly making progress on the magnetic stir bar station. Might get more done this weekend.

It's looking great! It took about 2 weeks for my seagrass to really establish and start creating new leaves. I can't wait to see that open portion filled with seagrass, I think it's going to be awesome. The turbos will start to mow it down in time, might have to do a manual scrub and scoop so it's short enough for them to get at. Once they can do that they'll polish those rocks right up!

It’s a little bulky but I’m not trying to create a streamlined design.

Magnetic stir plate x 4. The stir rate is adjustable.

I added an air pump inside and ran the lines through mini gate valves. So I can adjust the air low rate to each flask

I also added an LED grow light inside and it shines up through the bottom of the flasks.

Now I can grow my own phytoplankton again and / or grow cultures of pods. The three flasks there now are just growing pods. There’s some phyto in there to fatten them up and it has been growing on its own because that window is getting some good light this time of year.

Nice work. Where are you getting all of your electrical? mainly motors, linear actuators, din rail, cable tacks etc? I currently have to use my work account at Digi Key but use my own credit card. Only down side is I have to know exactly what I need versus if there is somewhere local to pick up the basics, I won't forget things and have to order again. My expense report for work is like 70% work and 30% personal haha. I would like to remove the personal part if a can.

Thanks.

DIN rail I’ve ordered through amazon before as well as the cable track. Probably could find that at Grainger.

I don’t have a great single source and unfortunately have to go online mostly. I like to support local, but haven’t found it.

Grainger stocks some basic 8020 extrusions and can order in some of the specialty items but at that point I’m just ordering straight from 8020. I do go to them for longer extrusion stock to save on shipping cost on 8’ + lengths.

MicroCenter is the closest I’ve found for local discrete electronics but they’ve got hobby level stuff at best. (Not that I’m trying to find a flux-capacitor for my DeLorean)

Otherwise, Sparkfun is a local source for electronics in Boulder but I think they’re exclusively online. Again, targeted towards hobby/education level. Mouser and Circuit Specialists are the other online sources I go to.

ServoCity is a hobby/educational level source for relatively cheep robotics components. Bearings, shafts, linear and rotary motion components. You aren’t going to build an Ironman suit from their stuff but it’s all designed to be easily integrated together.

DigiKey is great if you know the precise specs you need to meet. But, Holy Cow! Good luck browsing for a solution! It’s like looking for a single specific blue-green zoa on the GBR.

Honestly I never use grainger. Reason being the cost. McMaster Carr has all the same items for lower prices. I swear you can buy almost anything on MMC.

We use 8020 he at work and have stock with all the fasteners etc, so I use that stock if needed and replace it ( Let me know if you need any) . Just fun facts. MISUMI, Item, and Bosch, all make aluminum extrusions if you ever need something 8020 doesn't supply, with MISUMI being the best by far with so many items, fasteners, brackets. parts etc.

So online it is....

Yeah it can be rough to search through. Allied electronics is also another good choice

So, I hate to brag about my good fortune but I got a free gift in the mail yesterday.

SaltwaterAquarium.com was at my house when Mark filmed his stuff. I believe that SA probably brought him out to produce the content because the episodes are being released through their site. I’m sure the intent is to bring more traffic to their online store and show viewers how equipment can be used that they’re happy to sell. All that is great. I support local business as much as possible, but online sources have their place in the market as well.

So, I saw that a shipment was on the way from SaltwaterAquarium.com (that I didn’t order) and expected a t-shirt or hat and stickers. A small “thank you” for opening up my house which I’m happy to do anyway.

Box arrived yesterday.
