I do a kalk paste on a half of a clamshell then place it over the coral with power heads off. With the larger systems you get less of a PH swing

I have never seen kalk paste increase pH as it leaches slowly out, its not being added in suspension.

+1. WHen I use it as a paste it actually stays a white glob for as long as I'll let it. I will usually leave it a few days to a week then chip one spot away every other day or so (depends on how often I think about it).

i swear someone recently nuked their tank that way on here? your idea of "paste" could be different than someones elses and they may just accidentally slurry bomb there tank using the method they mentioned ...anyhow though the OP was talking about using it in a turkey baster ..if he starts shooting in turkey basters full of kalk paste it is going to change the PH and that was my concern

For reference. I use one of those large plastic syringes. Mix it to about a toothpaste like consistency. Goes on like soft serve ice cream. Hardens like oreo stuffing after the kids have licked all the cookie off and left it for dead behind the couch.

I think you have that all wrong. They eat the stuffing and leave the cookie

Alright so after everyones insight i went with pickling lime and a syringe and went after about half of the colony. So far its looking good, about half of what i hit came off the rock when i vacumed the lime off, thats a good sign. tomorrow will be the true test to see how much of it truly suffered a fatal treatment. Using the vacume technique seemed to cut down how much solution was left in the water coloum by probably 75%, this deffinetly eased my mind to the idea of a tank crash or PH spike. Overall i think its looking pretty good. Thanks for all the advice, ill continue to keep you posted.
