I want to punch that guy in the face. No matter what the reason, killing animals for personal gain on purpose is MURDER. This ****es me off more if he's doing it for money; I mean really, is a pice of paper really more important than an animals life?! God, this reeeeeeaaaaaalllllllyyyyy ****es me off.

It is sad to see, but unfortunately I don't think most people look at animals as anything other than livestock. Our animals are livestock. Our home owners insurance covers our equipment and our house, but not the livestock. This business owner's insurance wont cover his livestock losses. It is just the way our society views things for the large part. This is a crime but what the man will be charged with will depend on the local laws. BTW the link at the top of the post is the original report on aa. There are some comments and links to reviews of the store that make me think there are a lot of suspects.

How sad, i didn't know you couldn't insure livestock... I know you can't insure it when shipping but had no idea you couldn't insure your business stock.

IN LFSs, are all of the tank connected? meaning, if this guy dumped powder into one tank, would it poison his entire system, or do they have separate systems for each tank? Cuz if you had a grow-out tank(s) I would hope that would at least be a separate system.
Our Store has a total of 27 different systems running....take out the nano's and we have 19 systems....5 fish only systems,2 inverts,2 corals, 1 rock and 9 separate QT/Holding tanks.
I don't know how most stores have there systems..this is just how we setup ours.

I think that our community in Colorado would help out any store that would have this kind of vandalism happen.
Lets all hope never find out!

The next question is: What if it was a retailer that you didn't like? Would you be that upset that the livestock died if that retailer was out of business? I'm not saying what happened was right, just would our responses be different if it was a retailer we didn't like.

Case in point... See the reviews of the retailer that had this happen to them: http://www.dexknows.com/business_profiles/earth_and_sea-b1807035/reviews

Another theory that we didn't discuss was the possibility that the owner was done and wanted a way out, so he had someone poison his stock thinking he could get the insurance money.

I find it hard to believe most reviews in general as some people can never be pleased, and I say this as I was in sales for many years, but have never owned my own business. If in fact this guy was doing drugs (review on above link) with kids or anybody and owed money to people, then I can see why (not justifying it) a junky would do something like that. If that is the case then this man/owner, that many say was "crazy" is also to blame. But the simple fact is anyone no mater what the reason has no right to kill a bunch of fish or coral, all guilty parties need bullet ants placed on their junk.
