Got home tonight after work to find half of the zoa frags I had just glued down to a rock gone!! Frag plugs clean!!! I had just started getting into these designer zoas and got a bunch of frags collected!!! Who's eating my zoas?

The plugs still glued down? Did you glue the frags to the plugs? Check the "collection points" in your tank see if they are in a corner or behind some rock.
What tank inhabitants do you have?

Well, I caught an emerald right on the rock setting up in front of another frag looking like he was getting ready to have at it, so I banished him to the sump. (he had been set up near a med. colony of zoas for the last week and that colony was declining rapidly for no apparent reason) so after I got done with him and taking the frag plugs off the rock to put back on the frag rack, I saw my starfish ( not sure on ID, but he's a brownish reddish color and has spikes) head straight to the remaining frag and started right in on it as well!!! He also got banished...
I'll check collection points in the morning, but I'm almost positive they were a delicacy for someone...

+1 on chocolate chip star
I would bet there is someone here who love to take it off your hands for their harlequin shrimp.
How many in all got eaten up, that bites.

Oh yeah, choco chips are known coralivors, and emeralds have been known to pick what ever off the reef.

i would put my bet on the star ...get it gone ...sucks you lost the zoas :( but now ya know
what did ya loose?

emerald didn't likely devour all off them without the stars help ...maybe a nibble or two at most after injury began i would suspect

BTW ...live aquaria has a good list of compatible creatures ...albeit a little too cautious at times it is a good resource to get an idea of stuff goes together for quick reference .....wasnt very nice of someone to sell you that star without asking you if you had a reef first either but they probably assumed you knew

Most emerald crabs wont eat zoas but will pull them off of what they are attached to so they can get to algae.

The starfish was sold to me as a red spiny. When I got him I was pretty much FOWLR. But I do remember another customer warning me about his troubles with them in his tank, but I was so new then, I really didn't understand him. I've had the starfish since my original tank (almost 2 years now!) the emeralds came along when I had a bubble algae outbreak about 9 months ago, and seemed ok after that so I left them in as well. There is still another emerald somewhere in the tank...
So far confirmed kills are my alpha omegas and my incredible hulks. Fire and ice, eagle eyes opened up first thing this morning on the frag rack, still have several polyps of each. I hope it was the starfish and emerald, but I'll be ever vigilant today, as I've always rode the line with "reef safe" animals (Koran and coral beauty angel, Niger trigger, lunar wrasse) and see if there's a problem there as well...

I bet what happened is someone started it by picking at one frag until it was injured, after that all those tank mates smelled ''dinner on a frag" being served. From my experience once something gets injured and the tank mates find out it is they will devour it! That does suck though sorry to here this.
