I'm looking at a light fixture and can't decide to go pc or t5?

Pc has 194w
T5 has 156w

What do you think is better?

T5 provides more options for light combination as well as better quality light for your coral! IMHO t5 t5 t5!!!!!

Fyi its a 50g breeder....I'm looking to do mostly softies some low light hard corals....maybe a clam. Not sure if any of the will support one though....100 bucks is about my budget. My wife and I are having a baby in a few months so I'm not looking to get too involved with the tank.
i dont think so ....you could check ebay for the current 4 bulb t5 ...they are factory seconds sold by current
also i have seen some good deals on ice cap retro kits lately in FS section if you plan to do a canopy

Even though the t5 is less watts?
yes the t5 will put out more or atleast the same PAR in less watts plus you will get much better color from t5's

Do you think the t5 would support a clam and some sps? I would think high up in the tank would be fine but just want to see what you think

well that one doesn't even have a name brand ...lol and just a single power cord ....another thing to consider is that is doesn't look like either of them have individual reflectors and the bubls probably arent great ...they will probably get you by but honestly like most other things you get what you pay for good bulbs alone run $100 for 4 and they need to be replaced every 6-8 months or so

You will probably have to replace the bulbs for that system. One of the places that carries the full line of Odyssea lighting is Aquatraders.com. Many people prefer the Metal Halide Systems from Aquatraders since you will get significantly more wattage at the same price.

Here is a link to a 328W system with 1x Odyssea 250W DE HQI Bulb 15000K, 2x Odyssea 39W T5 High Output Bulb Actinic Blue, 2x Dual Bluemoon LED, and 4 power cords (HQI, LED, T5, and fan).

If I was looking on the cheep for a system I would probably go with this one instead of the 4 Bulb T5 I purchased.

I think I'd still replace the bulbs pretty quickly. Maybe use them till the tank is established. Also, keep an eye out for the dbtc corals. Many of us have corals to give.

Sorry but what are the dbtc corals??

The tanks been running for about 6 months. Well kinda. I moved everything from a 30g to. A 50 about 3 weeks ago...thanks for the tip though. It seems getting new bulbs and end caps is the way to go. That's what most of the reviews say.....well see how everything goes.
