I have a 30 gallon that currently has just a few fish in it and I want to start putting some coral (possibly acans, zoas, toadstool, frogspawn, bubble) in. I have everything ready for it except for lighting. What I was thinking was that I wanted to try out one of the Kessil 150w pendant LED's (I want another AI Sol Blue, but...). I was wondering if this would be enough light. The tank is 36 long by

You could go with a used 36" t5ho fixture, but after a couple of bulb replacements you'll be up in the led price range. LED - I'd go with a kessil 350w instead of a 150. You can also pick up a used standard 120w type fixture for less than 200, especially if it's not dimmable. You can get 'em new off ebay for that price too if you know what you're looking for.
I took a quick look at the 350w but it is the same price as getting a sol and I think I would just do the sol for that price range. I did a t5ho when i first set up the tank and I was told by my wife that she didn't like how bulky it was. So I am in the process of trading that away and now I was told I am allowed to pre-spend some of our tax return on some new lighting as long as it looks better.
I have a 34g with 2 of the AquaMedic Sunspot 12's over it. Built a cheap fixture out of PVC pipe for the bulbs for around $20 and found the lights online for $95 each. Have had them up for 8 months now about 8 inches above the tank with great coral growth all around (SPS, hammer, Acans growing like mad)
