well the diatoms have hit full swing and ugh the tank looks terrible!!!! but I know it is all part of the cycle. How long do the diatom blooms typically last? I am keeping up with 5g water changes ever 4-5 days and both the fish and inverts seem happy.

did you start with all dead rock? The diatoms could last 2-4 weeks... They don't hurt much if kept in check. Looks like things are going swimmingly.

Mine only lasted a few days. I just changed filter socks every day for 4 days and it was gone. My goby was sifting them out of the sand so that was nice!

Yea, the tank was started with all dead rock and 2 pieces of live rock to seed it. I figure if I keep up in water changes it should subside quickly.

I have 6 nassarius snails in the sand but they don't seem to be doin much... They only come out when I feed the fish!

you'll rarely see the nassarus. They eat the detritus in the sand. Have any coraline started?

I dont see any coraline growing on the glass or overflow, however, one piece of LR I purchased is completely covered and its not dying. So I assume its only a matter of time until it starts to spread. Plus the astrea snails had some on their shells too.

Looking good! I love all the swimming room in between the rocks.

You should do wp-10s instead of mp-10s if you don't care about controlling the pumps with an apex. The group buy is going on now.

Edit: you can get almost 5 wp-10s for the price of 1 mp-10.

Edit 2: The tank is looking epic! Can't wait to see what coral you put in it :)

Yea I'm really interested in the MPs and will probably just save up until I can get 2. An Apex is in the plans down the road plus I like the external motor for multiple reasons, one being I don't have to worry about running wires out of the tank with my screen top.

Santa was nice to me this year and put a Tunze Osmolator 3155 under the tree! This thing is awesome and is up and running!! I'm not sure if this reservoir will be permanent but it will work for now.

Looking good! nice ato

Quick update: Picked up the 1st of 2 mp10's for the tank and wow these things are awesome!! Also have some small corals in the tank.

Corals:
1. Green Polyp Leather
2. Orange/Pink zoa's... Unknown name- ID thread posted
3. Red Hot Chili Pepper Monti

The tank is going to be SPS dominant with a few LPS and zoa's, so I wanted to get some small frags to see how they do.
Diatoms are almost completely gone but some still remain on the sand. Parameters are stable and the tank is progressing!!

The progress continues!! Since I picked up the first mp10, I mounted and hooked up my Battery Backup. The cabinet is getting full, and I still need some more cable organizers... Headed to HD tonight to pick some up. Other than that, I'm happy with how it's all organized

Can't believe you stuffed all that equipment in such a small space. Nice job!

^^i really can't believe I still have room!!

Went to HD today to pick up some more wire organizer tabs and stumbled across some battery powered "tap" lights to illuminate the cabinet when it's dark. They stick on with strong double sided tape and have 3 led lights in them. Easy to chamber batteries if ever needed and seem to work great!
